Sometimes John will create diptychs and triptychs to solve a painting problem by adding a section to an already painted-on canvas. He has to try and imitate the texture and colors of the existing canvas before finishing it up as a whole. At other times, such as in this case, he builds the canvas as a triptych to start with. The vertical lines created by the edges add to the composition of the final painting. This painting is from 2019 and measures 16 inches by 39.5 inches.
